Falls happen for many reasons – consequences can be significant. Understanding what puts you at risk for an accident is the first step to prevention.

The new NancyLFitness Coaching Plan is designed to help you reduce the risk of falling. With this plan we will work together to tap into your capabilities and help you reach your goals.

Falls happen for many reasons. The consequences can be significant with serious injury, limitations on activity and considerable cost. Understanding what puts you at risk for an accident is the first step to prevention.

Strong muscles help support independent living and a good quality of life. Leg muscle strength is very important in preventing falls. Strong leg muscles can help prevent trips and falls by improving balance. And, if you do trip, strong leg muscles can help catch you. Furthermore, if a fall should occur, strong leg muscles can help you get up off the ground.

Balance, standing and walking use the leg muscles below the knee. Without exercise/activity these muscles will atrophy (shrink) becoming weaker. Leg strength can be improved no matter how weak or old you are.

As we age, muscles begin to lose strength and power; muscle mass (size) decreases; endurance and flexibility start to decline. We will naturally lose about a pound of muscle per year. This process begins at age 40. Physical activity helps to counteract this age related deterioration.

Regular physical activity/exercise helps maintain: balance, reducing falls and fractures; independent lifestyle; stamina and muscle strength; mood, well-being healthy bones, muscles, and joints. Without intervention, muscle atrophy will continue.

  • Fitness Survey completion,
  • Consultation (free) https://nancylfitness.com/fitness-request-form/,
  • Trainer/Coach creates individualized program,
  • Training sessions (directed by trainer/coach; completed by client),
  • Follow Up with trainer/coach
  • On-going development in collaboration with trainer/coach.

Consultation will address:

  1. Current fitness/wellness; how often client is able to workout; establish realistic and achievable goals.
  2. Previous fitness history,
  3. Potential health concerns or injuries,
  4. Lifestyle factors (stress, sleep, etc.),
  5. Mobility assessment,
  6. Trainer will outline steps by creating an individualized program based on client ability and goals.
  7. Program is delivered online.

Training Sessions:

  1. Begin soon after receipt of individualized program.
  2. Receive feedback from trainer: verbal instruction and video sessions / guides showing correct technique.
  3. Learn about the body as online coaching continues; trainer will explain health / fitness knowledge as it becomes relevant.

Follow Up:

  1. Uses smart connectivity or email,
  2. Trainer will suggest/provide: accountability, lifestyle tweaks, timescales, and specific goals.

On-going program development:

  1. Trainer will review/adjust client training plan to maintain results,
  2. Keep in touch with call/message exchange once a week tracking progress, along with a 3rd party app.

The trainer/coach will work to maintain client motivation and focus by building habits that bolster motivation; it will grow over time. We start realistically with small adjustments, moving closer to prescribed goal(s). Staying in touch is key to maintaining motivation, an open line of communication is essential
